“Bossa Nova is more alive and renewed than ever"! ..declares Roberto Menescal who, in April 2013, launched the CD "Bossa de Alma Nova" in Brazil, with his newest musical partner, the singer Andrea Amorim from the North Eastern state of Pernambuco. The new CD, on the Albatroz label, brings great classics from Roberto Menescal and his many collaborators, like Ronaldo Boscoli, Oswaldo Montenegro, Chico Buarque, Wanda Sá, among others, in new elaborate arrangements, performed by Menescal himself.
Andrea Amorim escapes the stereotype of the female Bossa Nova singer in her interpretation of the material and in her appearance. The generously tatooed ex-rocker from Garanhuns fell in love with Bossa Nova when she met Menescal, and feelings strengthened when she went on tour with him to Japan, seeing up close the love that the Japanese have for him and for the Brazilian Rhythm. To celebrate the composer's 75th Birthday, and also to pay homage to the Japanese public, Andrea recorded the album with Menescal and tatooed his name on her forearm, in Japanese. Roberto Menescal and Andrea Amorim also counted on the percussion skills of Reginaldo Vargas (who at the age of 20, peformed with the Brazilian singer Maria Bethania) and the double bass playing of Adriano Giffoni (who has worked with artists such as Tim Maia, Emílio Santiago, Maria Bethánia, Leila Pinheiro, Roberto Menescal and Gal Costa), to bring us new versions of classics like 'O Barquinho', 'Vagamente', 'Nós e o Mar', 'Bye, bye Brasil' and 'Rio', alongside new tracks such as 'Solidão Nunca Mais' and 'Um Tiquinho Sé' (composed by Roberto Menescal/Andrea Amorim). The Album "Bossa de Alma Nova" (Bossa of a New Soul) came to show us that the soul of Bossa... is newer than ever! |
